Hinter dem Fall is an independent blog of court reportage and crime reporting. Its focus is violent crimes against women and the stories behind the proceedings.
I am preoccupied with the question of why so many women experience violence at the hands of men. Where does it begin? What precedes an offence? What brings a man to threaten, injure or kill a woman?
The women concerned should be at the centre – their experiences, their stories and what often remains of them in indictments and judgments as the course of the offence. Where it is possible, I want to speak to them myself. That does not always work. Some women do not want to, or cannot, go public with what they have been through; in other cases the women are no longer alive. Then the only way left is to approach their stories through files, statements, relatives and the court proceedings.
I report from court hearings, research the background and follow selected cases. My concern is to make visible what easily disappears behind a criminal trial: people, relationships, contradictions and the consequences of an offence.
